Abstract
The patient who undergoes “conventional” lumbar stabilization surgery sustains considerable post-traumatic stress due to the wide skeletization with loosening of the paravertebral muscular masses, the arthrodesis with cruentation of the laminae and articular processes, and often also the incidental time for sampling autologous bone and iliac wing or spinous processes from the bed subject to arthrodesis. All these results in very aggresssive and mutilating surgical times which cause permanent structural dysfunction of the spine, the significance of which varies with the number of segments fused (◘ Fig. 6.1).
