Die transvaginale farbkodierte Dopplersonographie ist auch im 1. Trimenon der Schwangerschaft zur Beurteilung verschiedener physiologischer und pathologischer Zustände einsetzbar. Wie bei den meisten gynäkologischen Erkrankungen ist der Farbdoppler ein Zusatzbefund im Abklärungsmanagement, der nur im Kontext mit den klinischen Befunden interpretiert werden kann. Grundlagen der Anwendung und Sicherheitsaspekte der Dopplersonographie (Kap. 7) und der Physiologie der Durchblutung im 1. Trimenon werden vorausgesetzt (Kap. 12 u. 25). Während sich das Kap. 12 überwiegend mit Physiologie und mit der dopplersonographischen Untersuchung des Embryos im 1. Trimenon und der daraus ableitbaren Erkenntnisse über fetale Erkrankungen beschäftigt, wird der Schwerpunkt in diesem Kapitel auf Pathologie der gestörten Schwangerschaft gelegt.
