Abstract

Murray Gell-Mann was born in New York on September 15, 1929. His father Arthur Gell-Mann came from the city of Czernowitz, which today is part of the Ukraine. He studied at the University of Vienna. In 1911 he came to New York, where he married Pauline Reichstein.
