Abstract
Direct drive wind turbines are becoming more attractive for off- and onshore applications, since maintenance and downtime costs resulting from gearbox problems are eliminated and their efficiency is higher. Future design concepts and prototypes are presented and state-of-the-art gearless turbines are described.
