Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to describe the factors involved in supporting physical assets from the point of introduction into service, over their lifetime through to disposal. These factors also influence the initial choice of equipment. Outcomes In this chapter you will learn that many problems in physical asset management can be reduced by considering the supportability of equipment at the acquisition stage. You will learn about the factors that need to be taken into account in planning equipment support, and will be provided with check lists to assist this type of planning.
