A Small World Network for Technological Relationship in Patent Analysis

Abstract

Small world network is a network consisted of nodes and their edges, and all nodes are connected by small steps of edge. Originally this network was to illustrate that the human relationship was connected within small paths. In addition, all people know and are related together within some connected edges. In this paper, we also think that the relationship between technologies is similar to the human connection based on small world network. So, we try to confirm the small world network in technologies of patent documents. A patent has a lot of information of developed technologies by inventors. In our experimental results, we show that small world network is existed in technological fields. This result will contribute to management of technology.
