A Distributed Service Component Framework for Interoperable and Modular Service-Oriented Pervasive Computing Applications

Abstract

This paper contributes a novel service component framework enabling development of interoperable and modular service oriented applications in gateway based pervasive computing environments. The research problem addressed in the paper is how to enable integration, interoperability and modularity of technologically heterogeneous software services in distributed pervasive computing environments. The research problem is addressed by proposing a service component framework introducing an integration layer for heterogeneous service oriented software technologies. The novelty of the proposed solution is its capability to enable interoperable registration, discovery, binding and interaction of software services implemented in multiple different service oriented software technologies. The service component framework presented in the paper is implemented by a middleware platform, known as the MidGate platform, and is functionally validated via a laboratory prototype system implementation overviewed in the paper.
