On-Board Measurement of Emissions from Spark Ignition Engine Vehicle for Urban Routes

Abstract

Currently, testing the ecological performance of light vehicles is made using the New European Drive Cycle. Taking into account the problems of the last years, related to the efficiency of the testing procedures and approval of the motor vehicles on the stand, new testing and approval strategies are required. Our research aims to develop a methodology for measuring on-board emissions from vehicles, for different urban and extra-urban routes. For the present paper, the emission measurement system was tasted on the vehicle equipped with a spark ignition engine. There were 5 routes, of which 4 urban and one combined (urban and extra-urban). The results will help to prepare a methodology for testing on-board vehicles.
