Abstract
Sleep complaints are very prevalent in the patients with pulmonary disease. This review will examine sleep effects on respiration, explore ventilatory responses during sleep in normal individuals, and examine mechanisms of hypoxemia in patients with pulmonary disease. Sleep disorders in patients with obstructive pulmonary diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis (CF), asthma, and restrictive parenchymal disease will be reviewed. A diagnostic evaluation and management plan are also suggested for these patients.
