Abstract
The urinary levels of the lysosomal enzyme N-acetyl-ß-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) were measured in 40 patients undergoing lithotripsy with the Dornier HM3 lithotripter (ESWL) and in 30 patients undergoing lithotripsy with the Wolf 2300 lithotripter (EPL). NAG levels rose more frequently following ESWL (32 of 40 patients, 80%) than EPL (3 of 30 patients, 10%). In patients with elevated NAG levels pre-ESWL, return to pre-ESWL levels required seven to ten days.
