Abstract

The treatment of secondary purulent bacterial meningitis particularly meningitis caused by Ps. aeruginosa or Kl.pneumoniae offers significant difficulty. A large number of antibacterial agents developed up to the present time has not solved the problem which is complicated by the peculiarities of localization of pathological process. Investigation of new drugs and their approbation on the models characterized by changes in tissue and brain membranes typical for purulent meningoencephalitis are necessary. A study of such models is of great practical importance. At the 5th International Congress of Infection Diseases (Vienna, 1970) we reported about models of experimental purulent meningitis of rabbits provoked by Ps.aeruginosa or Kl.pneumoniae. Peculiarities of the infections depending on the pathogene as well as the methods of evaluating the antibacterial compounds were demonstrated.
