Abstract

Recently, culture systems have been developed which support the growth of multipotential stem cells (1), pro-B cells (2), pre-B cells (3) or mixtures of several early stages (4,5), and these have begun to improve our understanding of very early stages of B lymphocyte differentiation. In some of these systems, differentiation to a subsequent developmental stage can be induced, but multiple levels of differentiation have not been observed under conditions suitable for detailed analysis of phenotypic and genotypic events during these maturation processes.
