Abstract

The numbers of demented elderly and their dependency on family and health care systems is a public health concern in most developed countries in the world. The strategies used to meet these needs differ as each society and its cultural norms differ. While this chapter describes an American perspective, an excellent summary of work in this area done in Great Britain is ‘Caregivers’ problems, strains and services’ by Levin (1991).
