Abstract

In the domain of sheet metal production and manufacturing the harmonic analysis of eddy current signals is an appropriate nondestructive test method for process integrated determination of mechanical and technological material properties. This indirect magneto-inductive test method is based on the relation between mechanical and magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials. It presents the possibility to create quantitative correlations between measured harmonics which depend on the material’s magnetic properties and mechanical or technological material properties. This paper presents the measuring principle as well as the results of nondestructive determination of mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield stress) of sheet steels.

The main features of the developed test equipment for harmonic analysis are a high measuring velocity and a high measuring accuracy which is comparable to destructive test methods.
