Abstract

After seed has been harvested and before it is dried and stored, it must be cleaned, a process known as conditioning. Seed as it comes from the field is never pure but usually arrives at the cleaning plant containing varying quantities of trash, dried leaves, weeds, crop seeds, and insects. If it contains such materials as green leaves, stems, weeds, and other high-moisture materials, it cannot be safely stored until these contaminants are removed
