Abstract

Although somatoform and factitious disorders have long been recognized throughout the years, in one form or another, these disorders have represented a category of psychiatric disturbances that is highly misunderstood. This is not surprising, since these disorders have received little empirical evaluation despite much attention and discussion in clinical settings.
