Abstract

Over the last five years several hundred older people were studied in our physiology of exercise laboratory with the following threefold purposes:

  1. 1.

    To determine the level of trainability in people age 50–90 years of age;

  2. 2.

    To learn more about the dose-response characteristics, how much exercise is enough and how much is too much;

  3. 3.

    To evaluate the health benefits and the expected improvement in physical vigor in older people participating in supervised exercise.
