Abstract
The effects of surfactants HTABr, SDS, and Brij 35 on the electrochemical reduction of α,β-unsaturated ketone 9at a Hg cathode were determined. In aqueous micellar media the yields of ketone 8were higher than in an Et0H-Na0C0Me-MeC02H-H20 buffer. The influence of HTABr was ascribed to a combination of micellar and ion pairing effects, and that of Brij 35 to the former. The origin of the increased yield of 8 with SDS was not clear.
