Abstract
Scientific effort within a discipline, or disciplines, relates to one or more of a series of approximations each of which provides a more complete world picture than that which preceded it. In Chap. 3, four levels of scientific effort in environmental geochemistry were identified.
“In most farming systems two different types of management policies can be recognized. First, there are short term or tactical policies which relate to the action(s) to be taken when confronted with a specific situation. Secondly, there are long term or strategic policies which relate more to the overall planning horizon of the farmer.”
