Abstract

When the authors of this text gather for our annual teaching course on circumareolar surgery, we like to tease Luiz Toledo with the comment that was made when he gave a presentation many years ago on liposuction in breast reduction and mastopexy. He was told, “Son, we don’t suction breasts in this country.” Today, liposuction is an integral part of these procedures. The original fear that it would leave disturbing tracks and confuse radiologists has been put to rest. As noted in Chapter 1, and in case presentations by Alan Matarasso, Eugene Courtiss, and others, liposuction alone is the procedure of choice for certain secondary breast reductions and as a primary, less traumatic method of breast reduction in the elderly patient.
