Abstract
In Part I of this book we have introduced The Theory of Graphs with an occasional application of that theory. Examples include the counting of evolutionary trees in biology (Section 3.5), the intractability of optimizing phylogenies (Section 9.3), problems in tournaments (Section 7.6), and in chemistry and physics (Sections 1.4 and 1.5). In the following chapters we shall discuss in some depth the application of graph theory in a few selected areas: operations research (Chapter 12), electrical engineering (Chapter 13), industrial engineering (Chapter 14), science (Chapter 15), and civil engineering (Chapter 16).
