Abstract

4CAO.3Al2O3.SO3 is the most important ternary compound of the CaO-Al2O3-SO3 system. It has a significant role in the behaviour of calcium sulfoaluminate belite cements and also, in expansive sulfate aluminate cements1-3. The cements based on calcium sulfoaluminate can be produced at temperatures much more lower than those required by Portland cement1,2. There are economical and ecological advantages of obtaining such cements: lower consumption energy at decarbonation corresponding to a lower lime saturation factors, lower burning temperatures at clinkering, higher grinding ability, a reduced carbon dioxide emission and the possibility to use different types of wastes in the raw mixtures3,4.
