Abstract
Contemporary political and economic trends reveal that Sweden, perhaps more than any other advanced industrial democracy, stands at an important systemic crossroad. The central issue is whether the Social Democratic model of welfare Sweden will endure and conceivably be transformed in the direction of further industrial and economic democracy or whether the nonsocialists and other critics of the established system can manage to reconstitute the Swedish model in response to a combination of domestic and international challenges to its continued viability.
