Abstract

To process the data contained in a staff-file in a manual system, the clerk has to:

  1. 1.

    note which filing cabinet drawer contains the file;

  2. 2.

    check the file-name label;

  3. 3.

    note how the file is organised;

  4. 4.

    set aside desk-space for looking at and processing each employee record card;

  5. 5.

    open the drawer;

  6. 6.

    read each employee’s card employee and deal with the information; and finally

  7. 7.

    close the drawer.
