Abstract
Flora J. Cooke (1864–1953) was a disciple of the progressive educator Colonel Francis W. Parker (1837–1902). Her work was informed by a large and inclusive vision of the school, of the teacher, and of the student. To understand the impact that Flora J. Cooke had on progressive education, and secondary education in particular, and to appreciate the stature that she achieved in the educational community, it is helpful to know her history as a progressive educator.
