Abstract
Recent research trends of the preparation and characterization of highly efficient titanium oxide-based photocatalysts modified by different methods are reviewed on the basis of studies done in our laboratory. Special attention is focused on the preparation and characterization of TiO2 photocatalysts such as control of the crystalline phase and morphology; the synthesis of mesoporous structured titania; and modification by nonmetal doping, transitional metal doping, noble metal depositing, as well as various combinations of these methods. A proposed mechanism concerning the synergistic effects is discussed to explain the improvement of the photocatalytic activities.
