Abstract
Semiconductor photocatalysis has received increasing interest in water splitting and degradation of organic pollutants in water and air since the discovery of the photosensitization of TiO2 electrode (Fujishima and Honda 1972). Among all photocatalysts, TiO2 is the most studied one because of its chemical stability, nontoxicity, and high photocatalytic reactivity. However, TiO2 mainly absorbs ultraviolet light, giving rise to a very low energy efficiency in utilizing solar light. Therefore, new photocatalysts that can be activated under visible light irradiation have been recently extensively exploited.
