Special Issue: Designing Virtual Electronic Commerce Systems for Urban Environments

Virtual electronic commerce systems enable consumers to engage in online transactions, including purchasing goods and services from the comfort of their homes or mobile devices. Hence, designing an e-commerce system for urban environments involves addressing several key considerations. First and foremost is the connectivity and accessibility which plays a pivotal role. Reliable and high-speed internet connectivity ensures that urban consumers can access e-commerce platforms seamlessly, regardless of their location within the city. Moreover, user-friendly interfaces and mobile applications enable users to browse, select and make purchases conveniently, enhancing the overall user experience. On the other hand, logistics aspect of virtual e-commerce systems is very importance in urban environments. Efficient order fulfilment, fast delivery and effective last-mile logistics are critical factors that contribute to customer satisfaction. Designing systems that optimize logistics processes including inventory management, warehousing and delivery routes is essential for ensuring timely and reliable order fulfilment in urban areas with complex transportation networks. However, building trust is crucial for the widespread adoption of virtual e-commerce systems, particularly in urban environments with higher risks of cyber threats and fraudulent activities. The main focus of this special issue is to provide a platform for researchers and academic professionals to share insights, methodologies, and best practices in designing virtual e-commerce systems that meet the unique demands and challenges of urban settings.
