Collection on Mental Health and Energy Balance in Cancer Causes & Control

The number of people alive after a cancer diagnosis (“cancer survivor”) now exceeds 53 million worldwide. The growth of the population of cancer survivors is attributed, in part, to scientific advances in early detection and treatment. Despite the growth of this population, cancer survivors have unique physical, emotional, and social needs. Cancer survivors are often eager to understand how factors related to mental health, such as mindfulness, and factors related to energy balance, such as diet, physical activity, and weight management, may impact their health. This Collection of Cancer Causes & Control aspires to report novel discoveries and stimulate new viewpoints regarding the role of lifestyle factors (e.g., mental health and energy balance) in cancer survivorship. A substantial depth and breadth of research is needed to ensure that lifestyle becomes a central pillar of cancer survivorship, and this Collection welcomes all types of study designs that advance this mission. Ultimately, the articles published in this Collection will contribute to our understanding of the role of lifestyle in cancer survivorship and ensure that cancer survivors have the best possible quality and length of life.
