Chemistry: Recent Advances in Natural and Engineering Sciences – Doctoral Researcher Awards (DRA 2020)

The Doctoral Researcher Awards (DRA) is a UK-wide academic competition which is awarded annually to junior researchers who are pursuing (or have recently completed) doctoral degrees in the UK. It has been organised annually since 2012. The purpose of the DRA is to promote and reward academic and scientific excellence among young researchers who will become world-leading academics. Indeed, despite being founded less than a decade ago, we already witness the emergence of past DRA awardees in the highest positions in academia. The final ceremony for the 2020 edition of the DRA took place in September 2020. For the first time, the ceremony was delivered online in response to public health restrictions. Despite the challenges of that edition, a high volume of applications was received with over 230 candidates spanning the fields of Life & Natural sciences, Engineering, and Management & Social sciences. The top candidates were invited to present in the final ceremony, and it is the purpose of this topical collection to showcase the contributions from these high-caliber scientists. Contributions will encompass (not limited to): Two-dimensional semiconductors; Structural design of steels; Metalorganic frameworks; Perovskite solar cells; Human-machine interaction; Water treatment; Corrosion testing of alloys; Cybersecurity.
