Special Issue - Ethics and the Future of Meaningful Work

The questions of whether, when, and which work is viewed and experienced as meaningful prompt debates concerning business ethics, meaningful work, and the future of work – topics which researchers pursued largely independently to-date. They have also attracted much greater attention in recent years marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Bridging these research spheres is important for the advancement of each field of study, and also informs future organizations and societies. Each article in this Special Issue takes a unique approach to address these intersections by, for example, exploring artificial intelligence, technological unemployment, or corporate social responsibility. Collectively, the papers indicate future research directions with regard to: a) the meaning of meaningful work, b) the future of meaningful work, and c) how we can study the ethics of meaningful work in the future. We hope these insights will spark further relevant scholarly and practitioner conversations.
