Microbial Biotechnology

Microorganisms are everywhere, and the continuous development of microbial technologies (e.g., microbial genome and metagenome sequencing and analysis technologies, microbial gene editing technology, synthetic microbial ecology technology, microbial synthetic biology technology, etc.) provides new opportunities for human to better understand and utilize microbial functions.

This special issue aims to delve into the latest advancements of the interesting and impactful microbial biotechnology, with a particular focus on crucial technologies of microbial genomics, metagenomics, synthetic microbial ecology, or microbial synthetic biology to increase our knowledge of the key microbes in natural and man-made ecosystems. Articles addressing fundamental microbial genomic/metagenomic questions and the related biotechnologies are welcome. A review article should focus on a specific technology or topic for milestones and state of the microbial research in genetics, metagenomics, synthetic microbial ecology, or microbial synthetic biology.

The scope of this issue includes, but is not limited to:

1. Microbial cultivation techniques and optimization for genomic research.

2. Microbial synthetic biology.

3. Synthetic microbial ecology.

4. Metagenome-based basic theory and technological development.

5. Long-term laboratory evolution and strain selection technologies for verifying the function of key microbes.

6. Techniques for analyzing the stress tolerance and adaptive mechanisms of microbial populations and synthetic system.

7. Microbial genome and microbiome engineering techniques.
