This special issue is devoted to conference Applied Natural Sciences 2023, held in Donovaly, Slovakia, between 18th and 20th September 2023. This bienal conference is focused dominantly on young scientist (Ph.D. students and postdocs) carrying out research in various disciplines of natural sciences. Here the papers showing impact on environment are collected, which includes topics such as environmental chemistry, remediation technologies, waste-water treatment, waste management, carbon sequestration, climate change, applied ecology, environmental economics, or ecosystem services. Papers show dominantly primary research but a few review papers are included as well.

    Josef Trögl

    Josef Trögl serves as an associate professor at the Faculty of Environment, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia. His research focuses dominantly on environmental microbiology and environmental biotechnology, which includes topics such as bioremediation and phytoremediation of pollutants, reclamation of brownfields, soil microbiology under human influence or biological waste-water treatment methods. He serves as an associate editor of International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology and member of editorial board of several other scientific journals.

    Ildikó Matušíková is a Professor of Molecular Biology at the Institute of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Slovakia. Her research primarily focuses on molecular biology and physiology, particularly delving into plant responses to stress, with a specific emphasis on metal toxicity.
