Veterinary public health and food security

BMC Veterinary Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Veterinary public health and food security. The complex relationship between animal health, human health, and food security has gained increasing recognition in recent years. Zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and the sustainable production of safe and nutritious food are pressing global challenges that require a multidisciplinary approach. Veterinary public health has emerged as a pivotal discipline, encompassing the interconnected realms of the global food system. This Collection seeks to present a comprehensive overview of current research and innovations in the field of Veterinary public health and food security in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Research on zoonotic diseases enhances our understanding of disease transmission, improving public health and well-being (SDG 3). Addressing antimicrobial resistance ensures safe food access, promoting Zero Hunger (SDG 2). Sustainable livestock practices and responsible consumption minimize environmental impacts, conserve resources, and enhance food security (SDG 12). Advancing our knowledge in these areas will drive us towards a healthier, hunger-free, and more sustainable future. Submissions may cover a range of topics, including but not limited to: Antimicrobial resistance and its implications for food safety and public health Influence of vaccination programs on animal health, food safety, and human health Surveillance systems for early detection of diseases jeopardizing food safety Sustainable livestock production and its impact on food security and environmental sustainability Strategies to reduce food waste and enhance food security in the context of veterinary public health Nutritional aspects of animal-source foods in human health Innovative technologies and interventions for improving veterinary public health Policy and governance frameworks for ensuring food security and safety in a globalized market
