SocialLab II

The critique surrounding the conditions of agricultural livestock farming is comprehensive, yet potential solutions are often vaguely articulated and sometimes specific to particular animal species or husbandry practices. In response to this context, the SocialLab research consortium was established in 2012 with the overarching goal of laying a more solid foundation for the advancement of agricultural livestock farming in Germany as a whole. The central objective of the consortium was to conduct an in-depth examination of the societal perspective on agricultural livestock farming. Embracing the concept of a "lab," this initiative allowed for the early development of a research infrastructure capable of meeting the contemporary demands of transdisciplinary and participatory research.

SocialLab II's research endeavors are focused on addressing societal concerns and engaging in the public discourse surrounding various husbandry systems for the most significant agricultural livestock species in Germany, including cattle (including dairy cattle), pigs, and poultry (both broilers and laying hens). The ultimate aim is to provide actionable recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.

Please note that submissions for the Special Issue: SocialLab II are by invitation only.
