Variational Theory for Non-Continuum Mechanics

The variational theory is the theoretical foundation for continuum mechanics. A powerful mathematical tool for dealing with porous media, unsmooth boundaries and lattice mechanics was found recently with the fractal variational theory. The Topical Collection on Variational Theory for Non-Continuum Mechanics edited by Ji-Huan He focusses on the following topics:

• Fractal Theory for Non-Continuum Mechanics,

• Variational Principles in a Fractal Space (Porous Medium),

• Hamiltonian Principle for a Dissipative System,

• Variational-Based Analytical Methods and

• Fractal Variational Theory for Fluid Mechanics and Turbulence Models.
