Special issue dedicated to the memory of Huzihiro Araki (submission by invitation only)

This Special Issue of Communications in Mathematical Physics is dedicated to the memory of Huzihiro Araki, who passed away on December 16, 2022 at age 90. He was a leading international expert in quantum field theory, quantum statistical mechanics, and theory of operator algebras, and an editor of this journal over many years of his career. He is one of the founding fathers of algebraic quantum field theory, which gives an operator algebraic approach to quantum field theory based on nets of operator algebras generated by observables, together with Haag and Kastler. He also gave fundamental contributions to quantum spin systems in quantum statistical mechanics. His name will be remembered for the Araki-Woods factors and Araki's relative entropy for many years to come, as well as for his other achievements.
