Sustainable Solutions at Times of Transition

The International Symposium and Workshops on Sustainable Solutions at Times of Transition will take place in Nisyros Island of Greece, from 07 to 10 July 2024. In a world grappling with pressing environmental challenges, the need for innovative sustainable solutions has never been more paramount. The International Symposium aims to be a crucible for ideas, a nexus of expertise, and a catalyst for transformative action. The agenda encompasses a diverse range of topics, from biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration to nature-based approaches in urban planning and climate resilience. In this context, we invite papers on innovative technical developments, reviews, case studies, sustainability assessment papers. The following topics are welcome to be captured in the contributions to the special issue:

-Ecosystem-based adaptation strategies for climate resilience and resilient infrastructure design.

-Nature-based solutions in urban planning.

-Sustainable Energy and Hydrogen.

-Biodiversity conservation and restoration.

-Innovative circular economy models and sustainable resource management.

-Blue-green economy.

-Smart cities and nature-centric urban planning.

-Community-led conservation initiatives.

-Innovations in sustainable agriculture and food systems.

-Natural carbon sequestration.

- Sustainable supply chain management to name a few.

- Social and cultural sustainability, education, local knowledge.

-Gender equality and SDGs.

  • Anastasia Zabaniotou

    Anastasia Zabaniotou served as a full professor at the Chemical Engineering department, of Aristotle University Thessaloniki, Greece until 2023. She has a DEA and PhD from the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures de Paris (CentraleSupélec), France. She worked at the European Commission in Brussels, Directorate-General for R&TD. She was an invited Distinguished Professor at the Ecole Centrale Marseille, France. She the President-elect of the Mediterranean Engineering Schools Network (RMEI) and chairperson on Biomass and Bioenergy at the International Renewable Energy Network and Conference (WREN/WREC).

  • Nicolas Moussiopoulos

    Nicolas Moussiopoulos is an Honorary Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He served as a full professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Aristotle University Thessaloniki, Greece. He held various top-level positions, as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the Aristotle University, and Vice President of the International Hellenic University. He is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Royal Society appointed him as Associate Editor of Philosophical Transactions A.

  • Christofis Koroneos

    Christofis Koroneos is the Mayor of the Municipality of the Greek Island Nisyros. He did all his studies at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering of Columbia University in New York, USA, where he was a professor and now RA at the Earth Eng. Center. He was an Associate Professor having the chair of Renewable Energy and Energy Management at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia in Greece. He was teaching at the Interdisciplinary Program of Post Graduate Studies ‘‘Environment & Development’’ of the National Technical University of Athens.
