This Special Issue of Environmental Processes titled “Managing Water-Energy-Land-Food under Climatic, Environmental and Social Instability” includes selected papers presented in the 12th World Congress of European Water Resources Association (EWRA2023) held in Thessaloniki, Greece, 27 June - 1 July 2023.

The Congress was a forum for scientists and engineers from diverse cultures around the world to discuss their understanding of water resources systems at a diversity of scales, to promote environmentally sustainable water resources management and to discuss innovation in water resources management to address current and future challenges, such as: growing uncertainty, greater extremes, increasing demand, water scarcity and global change.

The selected papers include original findings, novel ideas, scientific concepts and new technologies and experiences to deal with water resources management, policies and governance with a special focus on sustainability, resilience, uncertainty, risk and adaptation making reference to the following topics:

• Hydrological Extremes and Hazards under Climatic Instability

• Water Related Hazards and Risks

• Hydrological Modeling of Complex River Basins

• Urban and Agricultural Water Systems

• Groundwater Contamination and Management

• Geoinformatics Remote Sensing Basins and Big Data Handling
