Chemistry: Oxygen Reduction Reaction Catalysts for Chemical and Biofuel Cells

As the world transitions towards sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources, fuel cells have emerged as a promising technology for powering a wide range of applications, from portable electronic devices to transportation and industrial processes. One of the critical components in fuel cell technology is the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst, which plays a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and performance of both chemical and biofuel cells. This Topical Collection invites researchers, scientists, and engineers from across the globe to contribute their latest findings and insights on ORR catalysts for chemical and biofuel cells. We aim to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas in this critical area of energy research.

We encourage submissions covering a diverse range of topics related to ORR catalysts, including but not limited to: (1). Novel catalyst materials and synthesis methods for ORR catalysts; (2). Pt, Pt-alloy catalysts for ORR; (3). Non-Pt and metal free catalysts for ORR; (4). Characterization techniques for ORR catalysts; (5). Performance evaluation and optimization of ORR catalysts; (6). Durability and stability of ORR catalysts; (7). Advances in bio-inspired ORR catalysts; (8). Integration of ORR catalysts into fuel cell systems; (9). Environmental and sustainability aspects of ORR catalysts; (10). Scaling up the ORR catalysts for industrial mass production; (11). Recycling of the spent ORR catalysts – especially Pt catalysts; (12). Innovative strategies to fabricate MEAs – catalyst ink, nafion ionomer optimization etc; (13). Engineering of the GDL.
