Special Issue on Electromagnetic Multifunctional Materials

Nowadays, in the contemporary era of wireless communication, electronic devices, and advanced technology, the proliferation of electromagnetic (EM) waves has become both a boon and a challenge. While EM waves enable seamless communication and technological innovations, the escalating use of electronic devices has led to concerns about EM interference (EMI) and the potential health and environmental impacts associated with prolonged exposure. The research focuses on the dual aspects of EM wave absorption and EM shielding materials, seeking to address the challenges posed by both the emission and reception of EM radiation. EM wave absorption is essential for mitigating the potential harm caused by excessive exposure, especially in applications where safety and human well-being are paramount. Simultaneously, the development of effective EM shielding materials is crucial to prevent unwanted interference in sensitive electronic systems. The investigation into EM wave absorption involves understanding the mechanisms by which materials can attenuate or absorb EM energy. This aspect is particularly relevant in the design of devices and structures aimed at minimizing the impact of EM radiation on human health and the environment. Additionally, the study explores the potential of novel materials, including metamaterials and composites, for enhancing absorption efficiency across various frequency ranges. On the other hand, the quest for advanced EM shielding materials involves designing substances that can deflect, absorb, or reflect EM waves to prevent interference in electronic devices. The selection and development of such materials are integral to ensuring the proper functioning of electronic systems in an environment saturated with EM radiation. In order to provide the readers with some perspectives of the latest progresses in the developments and applications of electromagnetic wave shielding and absorbing materials, this Special Issue will collect the papers reporting the current status of electromagnetic functional materials, including but not limited to the following: • Review articles on the latest research progress of EM wave absorbing or shielding materials. • Original research articles about the production of novel EM wave absorbing or shielding materials. • In-depth analysis of EM loss mechanism about EM wave absorbing or shielding materials.
