This special issue, entitled "Translational Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics in CNS and beyond" is dedicated to Emerita Professor Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes, former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Head of the Translational Pharmacokinetics/ Pharmacodynamics Department at Uppsala University, Sweden. Professor Hammarlund-Udenaes contributed significantly to understanding of brain pharmacokinetics of drugs and published several influential papers in Pharmaceutical Research. Considering her professional interests as well as the impact of her research and teaching, this issue dedicated to Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes covers a broad scientific scope in the areas of translational pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), experimental PK, clinical PK, CNS drug delivery of small and large molecules, CNS microdialysis for investigation of drug PK/PD, nanotechnologies in CNS drug delivery, pharmacokinetic modelling of CNS drug exposure, preclinical CNS drug development, intracellular drug exposure, novel methods for investigation of blood-brain barrier transport of drugs and intra-CNS distribution in health and disease.
