Public health literacy

BMC Public Health is calling for submissions to our Collection on public health literacy. Limited or sufficient health literacy is a predictor of poor health behaviors such as poor diet, smoking and lack of physical activity, and is associated with an increased risk of hospitalization and premature mortality in the population. There is a need for interventions to improve health literacy in populations so as to promote changes in health behaviors and reduce health inequalities. We welcome research addressing but not limited to the topics like community-based interventions, (cost-)effectiveness of interventions in influencing health behaviors, population health literacy assessment, associations with chronic diseases, and optimal approaches to improve health literacy for reducing health inequalities.
