Abstract
In January 2013, I improbably found myself seated before the president of a small country in East Africa. Before that trip, I probably couldn’t even have placed Malawi on a map. Like many, I routinely expressed a love of Africa, and I had spent weeks at a time in various places on the continent, but Malawi was not among them.
