Abstract

A CONTROVERSIAL SENTENCE from Walkable City bears repeating: “The dream is to get bicyclists where they need to go, not to apportion them a slice of every road, tied up with a bow.”191 Even under the best political circumstances, placing bike lanes in every street is simply not possible, nor is it the best outcome. As implied by the concept of strength in numbers, it is safer to concentrate cyclists on fewer routes, where drivers expect to see them, rather than to disperse them like a mist throughout an entire city.
