Abstract

This is a quote from the foreword of a book called Stamcellen (Stem Cells), written by one of the world’s leading stem cell researchers, Christine Mummery, and two of her colleagues (Mummery, Van de Stolpe, & Roelen, 2007). Stem cells are cells that, depending on the conditions, form specific cell types, tissues and organs. They don’t yet have any specific or specialist function like normal (somatic) body cells, for example blood cells, skin cells and liver cells.
