Abstract
Der starke Wettbewerb der internationalen Tourismusindustrie fordert von touristischen Unternehmen laufende Innovationen, um am Markt wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben. Aufgrund des wachsenden sozialen und politischen Bewusstseins haben seit den 1990er-Jahren Öko-Innovationen immer stärker an Bedeutung gewonnen. Die Forschung hierzu beschränkt sich jedoch auf den Industriebereich, während es nur wenige Untersuchungen für den Dienstleistungssektor und speziell für den Tourismus gibt. Die Studie basiert auf einer adaptierten Version des „Eco-innovation casual chain“- Modells und inkludiert die SDGs als End-point-Auswirkungen. Der Fokus der qualitativen Befragung mit Tiny-House-Vermieter:innen und -Anbieter:innen liegt damit erstmals auf der kleinstrukturierten, alpinen Beherbergungswirtschaft im DACHRaum. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass kleinstrukturierte Beherbergungsformen nicht automatisch ökologisch nachhaltiger sind. Sie weisen neben vielen Vorteilen auch Nachteile im ökologischen Bereich auf. Ebenso finden sich jedoch auch positive Effekte im Bereich der sozialen und ökonomischen Aspekte der Nachhaltigkeit. Der Beitrag der Tiny Houses zu einer nachhaltigen Tourismusentwicklung muss daher differenziert betrachtet werden: Auch wenn diese neuartige Beherbergungsform Potenzial für Tourismusentzerrung und die Stärkung von wenig tourismusintensiven Räumen mit sich bringt, handelt es sich dabei um ein Nischenprodukt, welches nur schwer skalierbar ist.
