Abstract
The events in the United States on September 11, 2001, the subsequent dissemination of anthrax through the mail, and the existence of biological weapons programs in other nations have raised the public’s concern about the detection and medical management of biological agents, whether on the battlefield or in a civilian environment. This concern is heightened by advances in molecular biology, and the ease of information flow via the Internet (http://www.usamriid.army.mil/education/index.html).
