Power, Perks, Prestige and Privileges: The Military’s Economic Activities in Pakistan

  • Chapter

Part of the International Political Economy Series book series (IPES)

Abstract

Pakistan’s military is a key player in the country’s politics and enjoys tremendous power and influence dating back to the early years of the nation’s history. This influence is not limited to the political arena, however. The military has managed to spread its tentacles into other areas, including the corporate sector. The businesses run by the military’s four major welfare foundations rank as the top business houses in the country. Their assets run into millions of US dollars with hardly any trace of accountability.
