Abstract

The foundation for healthy sibling relationships begins early in life. Closeness between siblings in adulthood is driven by the way they engaged each other in childhood. Hence, the childhood years are a crucial building stage for solidifying the sibling bond. With a correct mix of ingredients, siblings can emerge from their childhood years with a sibling bond that will serve them well as they enter the adolescent years and transition into adulthood. Consequently, efforts at creating closeness between siblings in childhood are well worth it considering the importance of sibling relationship warmth throughout life. Clinicians are often called upon to help parents in these efforts.
